Прочитайте текст. The History of Toys
A toy is something that is used for play, usually by children. Children play with toys as a pastime that develops skills that they will use in later life. Toys are popular pastimes for children that also serve an educational purpose, as they are useful for teaching children many skills that are important later in life, such as problem-solving. It is impossible to tell what the oldest toy in the world is. Today there are over five billion toys in the world!
Toys have existed since prehistoric times, and archaeologists have discovered toys of ancient civilizations all over the world. The oldest known toy doll, for example, is over 4,000 years old. Early toys were made from natural materials such as rocks or sticks. Toys in ancient times came in various shapes and sizes, including toy horses, dolls, yo-yos, board games and even miniature bows and arrows. Children in Ancient Greece had to leave their toys in the church as a gift to the gods.
In more recent history, people began to realise that toys were important for children because they played a large role in helping a child develop many skills that they would need later in life. Some toys were designed with education in mind. Rocking horses, which were a popular toy in the olden days, were originally designed to help children learn how to balance on a real horse.
Other toys were designed to be played with outside in order to encourage children to be active, such as kites and hoops. As technology advanced, toys could be created with more complicated moving parts, such as the kaleidoscope. Toys used to be made in small workshops, but soon whole factories were created to produce toys.
In more recent years, the toy industry has grown to include hundreds of different types of toys using many different materials. Toys were made of wood or metal in the past. Now they are usually made of plastic and have become popular across the world. The first plastic toys were invented as early as the 19th century.
Some toys have electronic parts which allow them to make noise or light up, and many older types of toys have been modernized or replaced with new versions, such as wooden building blocks being replaced with plastic building bricks. The first electric toy ever invented was a toy electric train. The first battery-operated toy was a toy car that children could ride, which was invented in the 1960s.
